Comparison of Dictionaries

Word chosen: Lecture

Oxford Dictionary:

Webster Dictionary:

Wordreference:

After looking up in these three dictionaries the word Lecture, we can see that the one that gives more definitions and better explanations is Webster dictionary because in my opinion they are more clearly divided as we can see with the word lecture that is divided into noun definitions and verb definitions. Although Oxford Dictionary also gives the definition of the word considering the noun and verb definitions and it is clearly structured, I think that Webster Dictionary gives a clear presentation and definition of the word chosen, not only for native students but also for foreign students, too.
Apart from that, Wordreference Dictionary is not as good as the other two mentioned before because it gives really simple definitions. Nevertheless, some advantages that I would like to mention about these two dictionaries, Webster and Wordreference, are that: in Webster Dictionary, as we have said, gives definitions of the word for students of English and native students, and examples of the word used in context. In Wordreference, it gives simply definitions but, they are retrieved from different dictionaries and therefore, we can compare all the definitions provided.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

The definition from this dictionary is different from the rest seen because, apart from providing the definitions of the words, it also gives contextualized examples and as we can see at the top of the page, it is dedicated to students, therefore the definitions are clear and it gives not only the pronunciation but also how we have to use the word (with object, or no object, countable...).
I have also tried some puzzle and quizzes from Merriam-Webster and Oxford Dictionary and I personally prefer the ones on Oxford website because they are more interactive and engaging with the videos presented and the games offered: https://blog.oxforddictionaries.com/2017/05/10/guess-the-word-part-one/
