About me

Hello! My name is Laura Martínez and I'm studying a University Master's degree in Academic Staff of Secondary Education and High School, Vocational Training and Language teaching at the University of Alicante. This year, I have also graduated from the University of Alicante with a degree in English Studies.

Now, I would like to talk a little bit about my experience in the world of Education. Since I was seventeen years old, I have given private lessons related to my field of study which is Linguistics. I have not only given English private classes, but also Latin and Greek classes (but this was too many years ago). This experience made me realize that I wanted to be a teacher of English Language.

Those little steps led me into the world of Education. Last year, I had the wonderful opportunity to do my degree internship in a Secondary Education Centre in Alicante. This experience was really challenging because it involved to be in a real class with students, something that I had never done. I was teaching different levels (1^st , 2^nd of ESO and 1^st of Bachillerato) and that helped me a lot, because I could see what means to be a teacher: you have the great responsibility to teach your students not only the contents of the subject but also good values.

Considering my level of English, I have a C1 level because I did four years of English Studies and passed all the subjects required to obtain it, in this case there were seven subjects called English Language. However, I think that what I also do in my free time helps me to continue to improve my linguistic skills, for instance: I like reading books from authors such as Lovecraft or Poe, watching films in original version and listening to music.

Finally, I would like to end talking about my computer knowledge. I have to admit that I cannot live without my laptop or my smartphone because they are my main tools for working. I use every day my laptop because I always have to do essays or practices and submit them for my classes at the university. I also use my smartphone for organizing my daily routine and contacting my family, friends and classmates. Normally, I check my social networks, emails and UAcloud platform every day and sometimes I also visit web pages such as YouTube.

This is the first time I do an online course and I think it is going to be a great experience because it will help me to understand how ICT can be used in a learning-teaching environment and especially in language teaching.
